"We will try to spread the contents of future education that began in Korea globally."
ALUX, founded in 2015, is an edutech company with Korea's largest education network and educational robot production technology. Based on 25 patented technologies, including robot design and AI education, the company is showing high performance in the fields of assembly robots, coding robots, AI learning tools, and drones. Currently, more than 300,000 students in over 2,500 schools nationwide are learning coding with ALUX's teaching materials and educational content.
CEO Lee recalled that at the time the company was founded, the social media market was growing rapidly. He founded the company with his members after seeing the potential for an 'edutainment' business that combined YouTube and Edutech. CEO Lee said, “At the time, the first edutech area we decided to utilize was the coding education field. With the advent of the AI era and the growth of global tech companies, interest in coding education increased throughout society, and numerous startups were providing coding education.
“After launching ‘ㅋㄷㅋㄷ Coding’ with KBS with a budget of over 8 billion won, the product sold more than 30,000 sets in the first year, serving as an opportunity to successfully settle in the market," he explained.
Even though there are many edutech companies, Alux can maintain its place at the top of the field of school education infrastructure by planning and developing products based on an understanding of students and the educational field. CEO Lee said, “Existing edutech companies developed products based on their own technological strengths, so supplier-oriented products often came to the market. Therefore, I understand there are many cases where difficulties are experienced in immediately reflecting feedback from the field after product launch.'
ALUX has several policies as its basic principles to overcome these feedback points and become the most friendly company in the educational field. First, establish a system to complete the product development cycle within one year. This means that all stages, such as development, mass production, and teacher training, must be completed within a single year, and the pure development process must be completed within 4 to 5 months. In addition, based on the principle of free after-sales service, they actively reflect opinions gathered through communication with customers in the product production process. It is an expression of confidence in quality and, at the same time, an expression of the will to actively accept the voice of customers (VOC).
CEO Lee said, “We want to become a company that grows by receiving and accepting feedback without hesitation on problematic issues found when using the product."
He added, “I think this is possible because we are the company that knows the field best and receives the most feedback from said field."

ALUX is also different from typical startups in that it has consistently maintained a surplus, even after just a few years of establishment. The company's sales more than tripled, from 4 billion won in 2018 on a separate basis to 14.9 billion won (37.2 billion won on a consolidated basis) last year, and it also achieved operating profit for three consecutive years. The domestic production principle that Alux has insisted on from the beginning of its business has helped it gain consumer trust.
CEO Lee said, “It was a choice that was necessary to establish a one-year development cycle system, but the unit price difference compared to overseas production was indeed quite large, so it was a huge burden in terms of profit and loss in the early stages of the business. But the COVID-19 period brought about an unexpected change."
The explanation is that as on-site management of overseas production plants became difficult due to the coronavirus, the quality defects of companies reliant on overseas production rose sharply, and when considering quality, the price competitiveness of domestic production increased.
ALUX was able to enter overseas markets quickly, which is unusual for a startup. Currently, it has established a subsidiary in China and is conducting business there directly. They are also conducting business in more than 10 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the United States, and Switzerland, through collaboration with local education companies. The 'Global PRC Robot Coding Competition,' which Alux started in Korea in 2014, has grown into an international-level robot competition with more than 10,000 participants from all over the world yearly. Based on the growth of this overseas business, ALUX expects to achieve overseas sales of more than 10 billion won in 2024.
ALUX is working to expand its drone education business, including recently appointing Ji Sang-ki, former CEO of BYROBOT, as director of the drone business division. CEO Lee explained that expansion into the drone business was inevitable because the drone business is highly related to robot edutech in terms of technology and market.
He said, “We decided to enter the drone business with the belief that ALUX’s technological prowess, which has been leading the industry and consolidating know-how in the field for many years, can sufficiently compete with global companies in the drone industry.”
He added, “The research and development (R&D) workforce exceeds more than half of the total members, and with a solid infrastructure, such as the establishment of a domestic production line, the company is continuing to expand its business in various aspects to become a leading company in the flying robot (drone) field.”
